Book Review: An Indecent Marriage by Doreen Owens Malek

Rating:

A Tearjerker

The premise is as old as Shakespeare – beautiful rich girl and handsome poor boy fall in love and their socio-economic standing pulls them apart. Jack Chabriol was born on the other side of the tracks but found Jessica Portman, the daughter of the richest man in town irrisistible. Ten years had passed since Jessica’s father abruptly ended their love affair. Jack is now a rich man and Jessica is back in town.

An emotional roller coaster from page 1, “An Indecent Marriage” made me cry so many times that I am glad I was reading it on Kindle and not a hard copy book because the paper would have been wet. (On a truly personal note, I had to wipe my glasses several times because they were wet with tears.)

I just love Jessica and Jack – so in love at such a young age; their love was ill-fated and they don’t have control on their lives. As adults, their young love still ruled them. Both of them thought the other had forgotten and tried to hide from the other what they truly felt.

When main characters were being pigheaded, I usually feel like taking them by the shoulders and shaking them. But not with Jessica and Jack. Their suffering was real, their hurt had a bite and you go through it with them as you read the book.

A great read and if you don’t mind my saying, the tears are cleansing!!!
