Book Review: For Services Rendered by Patricia Kay

Rating:

An Easy Read
4 Stars

The story of Nick and Claire, “For services rendered” is about a marriage of convenience that was not so convenient after all. An easy read with lovable characters, Nick and Claire tug at your heartstrings but never really pulls you in.

***POSSIBLE SPOILERS***
The author fleshed out the characters nicely and thank goodness, she stayed within the era when the book was originally written and thus though it was reissued in 2012, the atmosphere remained intact.

Though I thoroughly enjoyed the book, I also felt as if the drama was in a plateau. There was never a climax even when Nick and Claire were fighting. There were so many instances that could have been really dramatic like their wedding and their honeymoon. But everything was so restrained.

I wanted to catch my breath, I wanted to cry, I wanted to be angry, and I was building on it, but the author never gave me the release. So in the end I felt cheated so I took off one star though I enjoyed reading the book.
