Book Review: Never Resist a Rake by Mia Marlowe

never resist a rakeIf you think that dysfunctional families are a product of the 20th century, think again. In “Never Resist a Rake ” by Mia Marlowe, the marquessate of Somerset shows that even the aristocracy during the Regency era suffers that fate.

From the dowager Marchioness to John Fitzhugh Barrett, the heir and everyone in between them from the current Marquess, his wife and other children, the Somersets are as dysfunctional as they come.

But, all of them are capable of love, which is truly the crux of the matter here. In this historical romance which is also happens to be a romantic comedy, Lord Hartley (John’s current title) finds himself attracted to Rebecca Kearsey, the daughter of an impoverished baron.

But, Rebecca has problems of her own. And if Lord Hartley cannot extricate her from it, then everything will be lost, including the love they share.

Sweet with a little bit of cunning and lots of ‘aha’ moments; “Never Resist a Rake ” gives an alternative take into Regency era aristocracy.

Never Resist a Rake ” is Rated M for Mature due to sexual content.

Description

Can he fool his new family?
John Fitzhugh Barrett, surprised to learn he is heir to a marquessate, is determined his new status won’t mean giving up his freedom. But as families from all over England descend upon Somerfield Park for the shooting season, their unmarried daughters are lining up to bag the newest trophy buck-him.

Or is he only fooling himself?
John’s instinct for self-preservation inspires him to divide his attentions between a scandalous young widow, and the safely ineligible Rebecca Kearsey, daughter of a destitute baron.

The charade gives John the illusion of controlling the game but when he loses his heart to the beautiful Rebecca, all bets are off.
