Book Review: Night of Pleasure by Delilah Marvelle

Rating:

night of pleasureNot your ordinary Regency Romance, “Night of Pleasure” follows Derek, the Viscount Banfield and Clementine Grey, an American heiress with a very unusual upbringing.

The story began in 1823 when Clementine was 14 and Derek was 17, the same time they found out that they were betrothed to each other but had to wait until Clementine was 21 before they can get married.

It would be 7 years before they meet again, and things have changed between them. Derek was totally in love with Clementine while Clementine was all set to break the engagement and run off to Persia with none other than the Prince of Persia.

This is a romance, so the happily ever after is a given. What made this book a stand out is how author Delilah Marvelle handled the storyline. The ever present British ton, an integral part of Regency romances was just mentioned and was never highlighted.

There were no grand balls or lessons on aristocratic etiquette. Clementine was presented as an American heiress, her money though not being used to “buy” a title for her is nevertheless an important part of the story because Derek is actually an impoverished Viscount since he is the sole support of his whole family, immediate and extended.

The protagonists – Derek and Clementine have to fight their own personal demons before they can even try to resolve their feelings for each other.

If you are into romances, then this is a great book for you; and if you are not into romances, Derek and Clementine as characters from the Regency era are interesting and can hold your interest until the end.

This book is Rated M for Mature due to sexual content.
