Book Review: In Safe Hands by Katie Ruggle

in-safe-handsThe final installment of the Rocky Mountains Search & Rescue series, “In Safe Hands” keeps you at the edge of your seat. Like the first four books, “In Safe Hands ” is a romantic thriller. What makes this different from the others is that you cannot scan it. Every page is a must-read!

Because, aside from the main plot which follows Daisy Little and Chris Jennings, the protagonists of the first four books plus many of the supporting characters make more than just cameo appearances. They are important to the main plot, albeit in supporting roles.

Nonetheless, Daisy and Chris’s romance is as heartwarming as the others. Friends for a very long time, Daisy and Chris have to find the courage to cross the bridge from friends to lovers. With a killer on the loose, romance sometimes takes a step back. But, don’t worry. There are lots of steamy scenes that can get you hot and bothered. There are also lots of laugh out loud funny moments which happens to be a signature style of this series.

And though this is the final book in the series, it can still be read as a standalone novel like the others. I have to warn you though. After reading this, you will want to read the preceding four books – On His Watch (novella), Hold Your Breath, Fan the Flames and Gone too Deep.

That said, I would like to add that though I love all the books in the series, “Fan the Flames” is just my favorite. Rory Sorensen, the heroine in the story is so unique that she is an unforgettable character. And of course, Ian Walsh, her love interest can give Brad Pitt a run for his money when it comes to sex appeal.

Speaking of a run for his money, “In Safe Hands ” is so good as a thriller that it reminded me of “Rear Window” both the original 1954 Alfred Hitchcock film and the 2005 remake “Disturbia” starring Shia LaBeouf. There is no similarity in the storyline except that Daisy, like the protagonists in the two films are housebound.

A great read and a great conclusion to a lose-sleep-to-finish-the-book worthy series. “In Safe Hands (Search and Rescue)” is Rated M for Mature due to violence and sexual content.

Description

In the remote Rocky Mountains, lives depend on the Search & Rescue brotherhood. But in a place this far off the map, trust is hard to come by and secrets can be murder…

It’s all come down to this…

As a member of the Field County Sheriff Department, Chris Jennings is used to having it rough. The Colorado Rockies aren’t for the weak of spirit, but he’s devoted his life to upholding the law — and protecting the one woman he knows he can never have. He’ll do whatever it takes to keep her safe.

Daisy Little has lived in agoraphobic terror for over eight years. Trapped within a prison of her own making, she watches time pass through her bedroom window. Daisy knows she’ll never be a part of the world…until the day she becomes the sole witness of a terrible crime that may finally tear the Search and Rescue brotherhood apart for good.
