Loulou de la Falaise book cover2I met Loulou De La Falaise once in Paris. To say that I was enthralled would be an understatement. Renowned for her effortless bohemian chic, as well as for her wit, Loulou de la Falaise was not only an influential fashion muse, but also an elegant pixie in the serious world of Parisian haute couture.

So, when I heard on November 2011 that she passed away, I felt that the fashion world lost not just an icon but also a true talent.

The daughter of an Anglo-Irish fashion model and a French marquis, La Falaise assisted the designer Halston and modeled briefly for Vogue before moving to Paris in 1972 to work alongside Yves Saint Laurent.

A true original, Loulou’s sense of color and fantasy, and her soigné attitude would energize the mythic designer for over thirty years.

A designer in her own right, Loulou forged a professional reputation creating extraordinary jewelry and accessories, both for Yves Saint Laurent as well as for her own collection.

So, when I heard that a new book is coming about Loulou De La Falaise, I could not wait to get my hands on it.

Simply entitled “Loulou de la Falaise”, the book celebrates Loulou’s incredible personal style, from the ’60s until her untimely death in November 2011 and thus providing her with a permanent spot in the pantheon of strong, inspirational women whose influence is timeless.

With a foreword by Pierre Bergé, Saint Laurent’s long-time partner, and interviews with Loulou’s intimates including Betty Catroux, Inès de la Fressange, Diane von Furstenberg, Christian Louboutin, Elsa Peretti, Paloma Picasso, André Leon Talley, and Oscar de la Renta, this elegant volume is a life in pictures, with over 400 images by legendary contemporary photographers, from Helmut Newton and Richard Avedon to Steven Meisel, Michael Roberts, and Bettina Rheims.
