Young Men In The City

DALLAS, May 11, 2012/ — I’ve always been a fan of menswear. And truth be known, as a fashion journalist, I find reviewing menswear more fulfilling than reviewing women’s clothes.

This fascination I have about menswear comes from a theory I have; that among the species on earth, only male humans are the only ones who are not “more colorful” than their female counterparts. Case in point, the male peacock has beautiful feathers in iridescent blue and green while the female peacocks have the drab gray and brown.

Though the western world dictates that men wear subdued colors, the subtlety in menswear actually makes men’s clothing colorful and eye-catching. And those qualities are easy to discern. Just open your mind on a different aspect of beauty.

Good examples abound! Last May 7, at the MET Gala, actor CHACE CRAWFORD of “Gossip Girl” fame wore a custom black notch lapel tuxedo, white refined tuxedo shirt, a black tie and black tuxedo shoes from Kenneth Cole.

Director PAUL FEIG also chose Kenneth Cole, wearing a custom black notch lapel tuxedo, lilac white refined tuxedo shirt, a black bow tie and black tuxedo shoes.

Earlier, on April 28, 2012 to be exact, AZIZ ANSARI sported a Band of Outsiders shawl collar tuxedo to the 2012 White House Correspondents Dinner.

And last night, at the Los Angeles premiere of the film “Battleship,” actor TAYLOR KITSCH who plays Lt. Alex Hopper in the movie wore a navy wool two-button notch lapel suit, light blue dress shirt and grey tie from the Spring 2012 Calvin Klein Collection, designed by Italo Zucchelli, the brands’ Men’s Creative Director.

These young men might not wear the male peacock’s colors but they sure live to the expectations from all male species – turn heads!
