Book Review: CHIMERA by Vaun Murphrey

chimeraAn auspicious debut, “Chimera ” by Vaun Murphrey centers on Cassandra, a young girl now 13 who witnessed her parents being murdered and she herself was incarcerated for 8 years until her uncle found her and finally saved her.

Set in today’s world but the protagonists living apart from society that “normal” people think of them as a religious sect, Cassandra’s people call themselves “Weavers” for their ability to exist in a non-corporeal world they called the “Web”.

But, its not our Internet, though the Weavers use computers, cell phones and all the technology that is available to the normal world.

But, all is not well in the Weavers’ world. With the normal world already suspicious of their existence, there is also distrust and opposing factions among the Weavers themselves.

Cassandra who was so grateful to find that she has family and not alone at all has to figure out how to save the people she loves before all of them get destroyed.

Chimera ” is a beautiful and imaginative tale told from the point of view of a thirteen-year old. But, this book is not a fairy tale. It is a story of survival and finding love no matter how unexpected.

Chimera ” is Rated T for Teens due to violence. There are no sex scenes in this book.
