Book Review: Getting Hot with the Scot by Melonie Johnson

Laugh out loud funny, “Getting Hot with the Scot” plays on the current zeitgeist of pop culture’s infatuation with Highlanders. Thanks to a popular book and TV series, it seems that more than “some” like it Scot.

The story begins with five friends on the last leg of their month-long European vacation. Currently in Scotland, Cassie Crow gets caught in a prank by Logan Reid, the host of a popular sketch show. Mad to be “had” (after all, she is Chicago’s pop culture princess), she was ready to write of Logan.

But it was easier said than done. That fateful kiss they shared in the prank had Cassie tingling all the way to her toes. As for Logan, nobody has affected him the way Cassie had for a very long time.

A rom-com, the book brings readers from Scotland to London and finally in Chicago where destiny made sure that Cassie and Logan meet again. They were well on their way for their happily ever after but Logan’s past was rearing its ugly head and the prank that originally got them together was now pulling them apart.

A light read, “Getting Hot with the Scot” showcases Melonie Johnson’s lovable sense of humor. The main characters and those in the supporting roles interchangeably played comedian and straight man to each other. It’s non-stop laughter except of course for the dramatic parts.

Getting Hot with the Scot” is Rated T for Teens. Parental guidance is advised due to some adult situations.

The first in a new series, a journalist focused on her career and a sexy Scottish comedian turn a one night stand into forever.

Cassie Crow leaves for vacation with two goals: fill up her empty charm bracelet and have a one night stand. For once, she wants to have fun instead of obsessively checking her work email. And kissing a man in a castle who’s dressed as a Scottish Highlander is the perfect solution.

Except when that man turns out to be Logan Reid, the host of a popular sketch show—and Cassie has just been roped into his latest prank. She wants nothing to do with his antics, but that was a really great kiss, and one night together couldn’t hurt.

It’s clear that one night isn’t enough and when Logan’s show brings him closer to Cassie, they decide to give dating a try. Can the woman who’s focused solely on her career and the man who refuses to take life seriously make it work?
